Carlton Gibson, former Django Fellow, posted this insightful article about the Django community and how it's survived for 20 years. It's about a 10-minute read.
For me, the takeaways for a viable community are the following.
- Django Fellowship Program which pays contractors to manage some of the administrative and community management tasks of the Django project to support rapid development of Django itself.
- Plone and Django share some practices around what is core.
- Plone and Django share some struggles, including capacity and resource issues.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I would like the Plone Foundation Board of Directors to support its membership through more diverse fundraising activities.
