Apply for grants to fund Plone development

I'd like to fund development of the proposed PLIP to enhance timezone support in Plone as described in [DRAFT] PLIP #5629: Enhance timezone support in UI for `plone.app.event` based types · Issue #5629 · plone/volto · GitHub.

@niccokunzmann suggested that I apply through NLnet; Apply for funding. He was successful with receiving a grant for development of the Open Web Calendar Stack, including collective/icalendar. NLnet's mission aligns somewhat with Plone's open source spirit. Would anyone care to share their experience, knowledge, or advice for applying for a grant with NLnet?

I would also like to apply for a grant from the Python Software Foundation. I'd appreciate any feedback about that process as well.

Finally are there any other sources of funding or grants to consider?

Polar.sh allows funding specific GitHub issues and saying how much money would be needed to fix them. See discussion at polar.sh - funding specific issues · collective/icalendar · Discussion #697 · GitHub. This would be an interesting fundraising experiment to compensate developers for their time, so they can take out their sweetie on a date night.

Re Tidelift, a while ago I saw that Plone was not in the list of packages that it would support, but it seems that might have changed recently.

The Sovereign Tech Fund granted Drupal €278,700 and Open Web Docs €220,000, which manages MDN Web Docs .

As an interesting side note, it's an initiative by Zerodha in India https://zerodha.com/open-source, which is a partner in FOSS United with Frappe, who was a $1000 donor via GitHub this year https://plone.org/news-and-events/news/news-for-2025/when-your-legacy-comes-home-frappes-gift-to-plone.
