Volto English Source Text Corrections

Hi All,

During the Polyglot i18n project, I performed a comprehensive audit of all English source strings in Volto's i18n catalogs (volto.pot and volto_vlt.pot). This audit compared every message's #. Default value against UK English grammar, spelling, and punctuation standards.

Important: zero corrections have been fixed in the seven branch. All issues documented here carry forward into Plone 7. Additionally, we identified an unescaped double-quote bug in the seven branch volto.pot at line 2564, which will cause parser failures in tools that strictly validate PO syntax.

The corrections are split into two categories, following the same structure as the Plone report (UR-2026-003):

  1. Bugs (Section A) — clear errors (misspellings, grammar mistakes) that should be uncontroversial to fix.

  2. Style proposals (Section B) — corrections that depend on adopting a consistent UI text style guide (capitalization, typographic apostrophes, proper ellipsis, consistent quoting of UI elements). See the PLIP at docs/plone-community/PLIP_UI_TEXT_STYLE_GUIDE.md.

Let me know if you need further information or clarifications and if you want me to take any action on this.

Kind regards,

Mack

Hey Mack!

Let’s talk about this (and other things) during the Bucharest sprint, ok?

I am more than ok of doing these amendments in Volto. However, FYI seven is not using POTs for translations. We have still a very thin translation story (only the infrastructure in place) but it will be JSON powered (maybe even better). The ones you see in the seven branch packages/volto the Volto folder was left only for reference and LLMs.

Cheers,

V.

Sure, see you in Bucharest. Since its all in database on my end export/import in any format is very easy.

Kind regards,
Mack
