The European Hitchhiker's Train Guide to Finland

Tough choices, indeed. I’m loosing a bit confidence of doing the train ride, while I was sure that I’d go to the conference by train or not at all just a few weeks ago.

One way is around 55h for me. While I picture myself sitting in the diner car over a glass of wine, watching stunning landscapes passing by and preparing my talk it’s on the other hand five days of travel which will cut conference or family time. My time budget is 7 days.

Choices made, I’m taking the flight this time. I’m sorry to not be able to join the train ride.

Oh deer!

Those of you taking the train: you’ll be ~slaying~ sleighing it

Hi people!

We will be travelling soon, can’t wait to see you all in Jyväskylä!!!

FYI, I made a small app to post my daily stages in my train trip, I have called it On-the-move: GitHub - ebrehault/on-the-move
It allows posting pictures and small descriptions that are easy to share with friends.

That’s not the only app doing so (there are plenty), but that one is open source, and store all the trip data and picture in your GitHub account (and more importantly it was very fun to develop). Also I would like to somehow dedicate it to travelers who choose eco-friendly way of transport.

Here is what it looks like On the move (that’s just an example, I will start posting about my real trip tomorrow, I’ll share the link then).

If you like it, you are welcome to create your own trip here: https://on-the-move.abfab.dev (just login with your GitHub account).

Note: if you decide to use it, be aware I might break it at any moment during the trip, but I will fix it right away.
