Stellenbosch strategic sprint 2026 was outstanding

One of Plone's hallmarks is how we get together in person at sprints to work together on things. "Is this for work?" is a question I'm always asked. "...well, it's complicated..." is the start of my answer, because, yes, I have Plone projects and clients, but mostly I go to sprints and the annual conferences because I love the people.

As a Plone friend just said to me, "Yeah, I know the joke is 'Plone is a drinking club with a software problem' but at this point it really does seem like it's a social club where CMS happens."

For years now, I have been twisting arms of our South African comrades so that they'll organize a **** sprint or conference so we have an excuse to go visit their lovely part of the world, and I was gobsmacked when, in Jyväskylä, @astridjuizi went and announced just that!

...which of course meant I had no choice but to attend

And so I had the most amazing, unforgettable experience in South Africa with and thanks to these great friends and Plonistas: Astrid, Johan, Karel, Alex, Talya, and Mike for putting it together and for being outstanding hosts!

Not only did we have a super productive and energizing strategy discussion with real outcomes and action items (with a great outside facilitator, two thumbs up!), we got to visit a beautiful country and experience its richness of nature and complex history.

See the "best of" photos of the sprint, or if you have more time, have a look at all the photos
