Seeking consultant for Plone 5.2.15 maintenance and repair.

I've self-hosted Plone instances since v1.0 (I was at the first Plone conference in 2003 in New Orleans). At that time, I crowdsourced the development of Ploneboard (a Plone add-on like this type of forum); my implementation had 25,000 registered users and served over 300,000 pages per month.

I've done most of the sysadmin of my instances myself, though I am not a developer or programmer. My current site, https://take-note.com, is Plone 5.2.15 run on MacOS, migrated from an earlier Plone version by Six Feet Up. I have two immediate areas of concern (though there are others):

  1. The Mail Settings worked when jmarshallmayer@gmail.com was the ESMTP username. When I change it to egroup@mac.com, as well as the password in ESMTP password, it no longer works. When I save and send test email, I get: Error Unable to send test e-mail (535, b'5.7.8 Error: authentication failed'). I know the user name and password are correct. If I revert, it still does not work. I also tried reconfiguring in http://localhost:9282/Plone/MailHost/manage_makeChanges with no success.

  2. My internal 1TB SSD is almost full. But my instance and all other data on the drive amount to about 150GB. The Storage setting indicates that "System Data" is using up 80% of the space. Apple Support helped me look into this black box and it appears that the vast majority of "System Data" content is related to blob storage. I need this cleared out without affecting the content of the site.

In the future, I may be interested in migrating to Plone 6.x as well as developing additional custom functionality for the site.

I am based in Montana, USA (Mountain time zone). If you are interested or have questions, you can reach me directly at marshall@take-note.com.

Briefly, Plone 5+ no longer uses MailHost for storage of configuration, only for queuing and sending of messages; credentials and SMTP settings are stored elsewhere (in configuration registry). You need to use Plone's Mail control panel, not ZMI/MailHost to set up your SMTP settings.

Thanks Sean, I had tried that as well, with no luck. I think I have found some help so I will close this post.
