Hi everyone,
At the Axolote Sprint in Oaxaca I released plone-client, a Python package to work with Plone sites through plone.restapi. Its second alpha, 1.0.0a2, is on PyPI. You can use it in three ways:
- A library for your scripts. It has one manager per
plone.restapiservice, follows the API one to one (there is a map to@plone/client), and adds operations such as "create a page from Markdown" or "create a News Item with its lead image". - A command line for daily work: search, review, publish, manage users. Sites are named profiles, and their passwords stay in your operating system's keyring, not in a file. Profiles can be read-only, which makes exploring production safe.
- An MCP server for AI assistants such as Claude, built on the same library and profiles. Its tools cover everyday reads, Markdown pages with images, block-by-block editing, workflow, translations and working copies, plus one generic tool for any other service.
To try the MCP server with Claude Code:
uv tool install "plone-client[mcp,markdown]"
plone-client profile add mysite --url https://example.org --username editor
claude mcp add plone-mysite -- plone-client mcp --profile mysite
The announcement post on my blog was created by the MCP server itself, from a Markdown file, with its code blocks and lead image: plone-client: in your scripts, in your terminal, in your assistant.
If you prefer Node.js, or want the easiest start, plone-mcp is also there and under active development. The two come from different directions, and both are welcome.
