Marketing Team meeting notes 2026-04-21

Attending: Rikupekka, Astrid, Tania, Brian

Items from last meeting

WPD2026:

  • recap: discussion on how it went, focussed on what to continue doing (WPD: yes), what to stop doing (maybe rethink the scheduling - is it worth it?), and what to start doing (watch parties & networking opportunities; create simple guide for video providers). The Quiet Giant article and social media 7 day series went very well - a lot of work went into this, so it was good to see it got good engagement online esp LinkedIn, and Norbert’s great post. Excellent live events (Italy, Japan, Brazil) with more talks still being loaded, and great “noise” online. Thank you to all involved, well done on celebrating Plone so well!
  • Follow-ups/wrap-up:
    • write a news item on plone.org including history of event (started in 2008, mainly in person), moved online during covid by @ericof . Include reference to Italian media articles etc. (Rikupekka to write up, team to edit etc)
    • keep watching the videos - share, like, repost, also the social posts still coming through. It really helps to tag Plone in your own posts:
      • To tag a company on social media, type the "@" symbol immediately followed by the Plone's handle or name (e.g., @plonecms) in your post or comment. Select the correct, verified account for Plone from the dropdown menu to link to that profile, allowing Plone to receive a notification and greatly increasing your post's reach.
    • pick out “strong quotes” from the videos and use them in future social posts and on new plone.org content

plone.org renewal

  • Tania demo-ed updated copy of “they use plone” page. Actions:

    • check the copy (astrid)
    • request community to provide more case studies (astrid)
    • many case studies from mostly 2 providers - make some of them private for now to create balance (tania)
  • homepage inviting contribution - next step: custom block on new plone.org

  • in communication with admin and infrastructure team for next.plone.org, and plan for Rikupekka to attend Beethoven Sprint in person. Armin possibly attending Kerpen.

  • idea: new video of "what is plone" for new plone.org homepage, and on youtube (the 2 videos that are currently there, are attracting a lot of attention, and an update would be good to have)

  • still aiming for 15 June 2026 golive

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QariPNZBFCw&list=PLGN9BI-OAQkRXyVRChYlsJNIsOahQqUhd&index=2 plone.org renewal discussion video gives strong visibility of what is coming. Feedback from the community is very welcome.

Other

  • ploneconf update: can promote on plone.org hero block once WPD wrapup done. Rikupekka to mention in conf organizing team to encourage using Plone brand guide more. https://plone.org/foundation/copyright-licensing-logo/logoguidelines.pdf/@@download/file
  • carry over:
    • https://www.sovereign.tech/ still keen to do this. Can Board assist? Could unlock significant funding to allow community and Foundation to function even better.
    • Plone 6.2 RC, and release announcement documentation
    • non-PLIP system
    • Plone Edu
  • Buy a Ticket | Join CMS Conf 2026 in Gdynia is in November. Rikupekka still thinking about it.
  • Calendar items in next 2 weeks were identified.
  • Team members encouraged again to apply for Plone Foundation membership.
  • plone-labs on plone.org - Armin suggested an image including the Plone logo
  • Another strategy session with Jon Cherry - suggested for Plone Tune Up Day on 15 May. TBC.

New items (didn’t get to everything)

  • something fun: how about a unique sound/audio identity/sonic branding for Plone (eg Netflix ta-dum)
  • Tidy up https://github.com/orgs/plone/teams/marketing-communications Add info under “about”. Fix permissions and access to current members (need one of the maintainers to do this)
  • EU Open Source Solutions Catalogue | Interoperable Europe Portal add Plone here (Alexander Loechel picked up Plone is not here. “If you search for Plone you get Plugins but not Plone itself, if you search for Wordpress you get Wordpress. Red Turtle seems to have some of the Italian Python Stuff listed there”)
  • Salamina Sprint page and event to be created on plone.org (Dec 2026)

Meeting ends: 16h30 UTC.

Next meeting: May 5, 2026 @ 15h UTC
