In Eibar in 2023 I gave a talk about hosting video content in Plone. The conclusion was: you probably shouldn't. And definitely don't roll your own and treat video like an image content type.
I'm still trying to change that fact. Make video hosting on a CMS actually possible, and provide the easy button to do it.
Since then I've made significant progress on CasterPak. The server is up and it's auto-transcoding adaptive bitrate renditions for HLS. Demo is here: CasterPak
Where this goes: an add-on. You configure it to point at your own CasterPak instance, or mine. Plone uploads your yottabytes of high-definition video to CasterPak, and CasterPak gives you back a predictable URL to drop into your javascript video player. The infrastructure required behind correctly providing video content to a website is the part CasterPak provides.
All you do is hand it a file that might be terabytes, it hands you an HLS stream. CMAF streams are in the pipe.
The design right now is that your video library is simply mounted into the CasterPak host server. I can fetch over https if you're hosting raw .mp4 videos directly to the web, but it's not tested and I don't trust it yet. We can try tho!
It's working with hls.js and video.js, but I'm not much of a front-end guy, so your experiments are what I'm asking for.
Right now I'm just trying to get traffic and weed out the bugs. So I'm looking for anyone who needs to host video.
The easiest is to reach out to me with your video(s) and I'll host them at video.casterpak.com — just to see what issues we hit implementing it. Free, unless you swamp my egress bandwidth because you went viral.

We're not yet at a place where I'm an IaaS. But I'm dreaming...
