I’m currently setting up a new Plone site for a client who requires multi-language support, especially English, Spanish, and German. I’ve gone through some of the documentation and enabled plone.app.multilingual, but I’m still confused about the best practices when it comes to:
Folder structure for translated content
Language selector behavior
SEO handling for multiple languages
Redirects between language versions
Any known issues with the latest Plone version (Plone 6.x)
Also, is there a recommended way to test language switching on a staging server?
Any advice, configuration tips, or add-ons you'd recommend for a clean multilingual setup would be greatly appreciated.
I have a Plone 6.1.2 site online with PAM. Plone Classic as the backend and the restapi feeds the frontend.
Folder structure for translated content
--> I use the language root folders (LRF). works out of the box. You get a language root per language. /en, /es, etc.
Language selector behavior
--> Not 100% what you mean with that.
SEO handling for multiple languages
--> Language is a metadata field and we use it to indicate the language. But I'm currently working on a better implementation, which shows paths to other known languages.
Redirects between language versions
--> Works great if they are linked.
Any known issues with the latest Plone version (Plone 6.x)
--> There is a difference in behavior from Plone Classic to the restapi, which I patched, so the restapi honours the PAM policy as well.
