Hello from a GSoC 2026 aspirant exploring Plone & Volto 👋

Hi everyone,

My name is Shivaansh, and I’m a Computer Science student currently exploring the Plone ecosystem as part of my preparation for GSoC 2026.

Over the past weeks, I’ve been reading through community discussions and working with parts of Volto and plone.restapi, trying to understand how frontend and backend pieces fit together, as well as the overall development workflow in Plone. I’m particularly interested in areas around frontend–backend integration, UX improvements, and developer experience.

I’m still in the learning phase and aiming to contribute consistently, starting with small but meaningful improvements and discussions.

One question I had while going through the GSoC project ideas:
Some projects (for example, around Volto features or user/content management) are described at a high level. Is there usually an existing background context (issues, design discussions, or prior work) that contributors should look into, or are these details generally shaped together with mentors during the community bonding phase?

Looking forward to learning from the community, and happy to take guidance or feedback.

Thanks!

Hi Shivaansh - you’re meant to do your own research into the features in question. Look at the software, try it, read the docs, look at the code. You can ask questions in those idea threads if you seek more context or clarification. You can do this anytime. This is open source so we are happy to have your contribution.
