In plain events it's not possible.
How would you make an event occurrence editable for 'event location', 'description' or even the start and end date?
What you describe is a series of events, something under a generic topic that will have a number of events and you want to connect them. And maybe sharing something from the topic in the event.
I see it as a collection. The bad thing of collection is that you can use only keywords to "tag" an event in a series. A folderish item would fit better.
We have exactly this problem and I still have to find a good sustainable solution. Ideas:
- in the events site section, how this serie will fit? How can the serie's events be grabbed by the news or events collection? An idea could be to add a folder in the event folder, so they show up automatically
- how events are connected between them? In folders we have the previous next navigation that can help
- enabling the image behaviour for the serie folder, events in a serie could use the serie lead image and description, and display a link to the serie.
- Search will be ok, events or the topic folder can be found as usual
So a couple of custom templates or content types and this could work.
A LONG time ago, I did something similar by using a subscriber (or content rule) and 'made one content item for each occurency'. Basically, I made a new folderish content type which contained 'Eventish' items and the creation / editing was done with Datagrid field.
That said: my 'occurencies' were 'one and one', not 'repeatable' (so if something happened 10 times, I had to add it 10 times.
My 'content items' would use the values of the 'main one' unless another was set. (the main one beeing the title of the 'Folder'
