Welcome to PloneEdu!

Hi @macagua  I will locate the old PloneEdu site content and will post a link here.

I'm glad you explained the importance of a distribution (based on the unified installer). @ericof would want us to do this! (ie. have a PloneEdu distribution, in addition to something already online like with Heroku).

@smcmahon kindly showed me at the PSE12 sprint how to incorporate additional buildout configuration to the unified installer. It didn't seem difficult at the time, but I would have to refresh my memory.

Hi @tkimnguyen

Via IRC chat @smcmahon said me how done it:

You may specify --template= to pick a file to use as a template for the
buildout.cfg file. The file must be located in buildout_templates, and should
be generally modified on the buildout.cfg included with the installer. The
safest customizations will be to add eggs, parts or version pinnings.

This is from README.txt from UnifiedInstaller

Although I understand that @ericof used another technology to build Plone distributions?

This week we will meet some plonistas from two Venezuelan universities to discuss this PloneEdu distrubution.

I just asked Érico what was used or who did it - will let you know. Maybe someone at Interlegis or @hvelarde knows?

Nothing like looking things up in the docs. There is a PloneEdu buildout page still being edited but I will give logged I users read permission. That could be the basis for the .cfg you use with the unified installer. We also need to ask PloneEdu readers what add ons they use too, similar to the http://paragon.plone.org effort.

Could you ask those two university colleagues to fill out a PloneEdu member profile and at least a short success story? Forms are about to be published on the http://Plone.org/edu site.

Here is the draft PloneEdu add ons page. You'll need to log in to view it. Please post comments here for now if you want to suggest changes.

Email has gone out to the mailing list, with instructions on how to set up email notifications for any new posts to the PloneEdu category. I will post those instructions here later.

I posted instructions on how to set up forum email notifications here:

Yes, he showed me at Ploneconf e.g. overrides to the ++add++PloneSite
view. We will probably work on something like that in Plone Intranet,
and I'm interested in the unified installer (and Vagrant/Docker images)
as well.

What's the best way to share knowledge on these kinds of tasks? Posting
IRC snippets on a mailing list feels like a lossy communication channel
to me :-). I would rather like to build a HOWTO together. Should we
create a section on docs.plone.org? Any other proposal?

Soon, a Plone Intranet instance ;->

I'll create a folder where logged in users can edit, add, etc. Should it be publicly visible yet? Might be best to wait until the information there has had time to "gestate" before putting it on docs.plone.org.

I've create this folder where logged in users can add, edit, view:

At some point we can take pages that are "ready" and publish them or move them out of the intranet.

Thank you for your contribution!

Does anyone know how to enable a nav portlet or equivalent on Plone.org?

I've reworked the "activities" part of the front page of http://plone.org/edu to include a link to our new intranet folder under the "Contribute Content" subheading.

Contribute Content

Jump into our intranet and build our communal expertise on how we use Plone in education. Develop documentation (e.g. HOWTOs, recipes for deployment, training manuals and videos) in preparation for moving to http://docs.plone.org. (Login required)

hi @gyst

Yes I remember the Ploomcake distro that using an overrides to the ++add++PloneSite like this.

I think so it should be at docs.plone.org website

Ok @tkimnguyen

I was working on collective.cpanel with the dual goal of a nice zope landing page that let you pick "distributions" instead of GS profiles and also made it easy to let non-admin people creates sites (after verifying their email address)

@macagua that folder is created... it's at https://plone.org/community/edu/intranet

I see this is viewable by anon, is that intended?

The intranet folder is public draft and so are sub folders but pages are private. I thought it would be useful for visitors to see the intranet folder as a hint

That does sound reasonable, but this visitor was inclined to see the empty folders as an indication that nothing is being submitted.

OK... what do you recommend, or what wording on that folder would address that? I'm open to suggestions

How about:

Please log in to view or submit drafts of HOWTOs, recipes, ...

with some body text elaborating the goals of the intranet. In this case don't show the empty folders. They're only sensible if navigating them is actually constructive, and if they're always going to be empty, that's not constructive.
