The Plone add-on story...vision and reality

Followup to Extend Plone's Power with Add-Ons

in a dedicated thread since the following reply got flagged as off-topic:

We just need to acknowledge that the Plone add-on story is also a sad story.

Many successful Plone 4 add-ons have not been migrated due to

  • changes between Plone 4 and Plone 5 (resource registries in particular)
  • switch from Archetypes to Dexterity
  • new: migration from Python 2 to Python 3 needed
  • maintainers disappearing
  • lack of resources

How about considering making a choice not to label it as a sad story?

Just acknowledging that the reality of Plone and community continues to evolve as per the amount of effort that people in the world are willing to contibute to the project.

From there making the personal choice in which parts of Plone one wants to be involved in and how much effort one wants to make in contributing to the project and make peace with that?
