Question about using collective.exportimport and the translations

Hi community,

Do you have experience exporting/importing a multilingual website using collective.exportimport?

I can image there are two general approaches

First approach

  • First, import all pages with the root language

  • Then import the respective translations

Second approach

  • Every time a page is imported, the translations are also imported.

The first approach seems more uncontrolled. for example, if a page with a root language fails to import, it will try later on to import the translations, which will make no sense.

What are your experiences importing a multilanguage website? What are the best practices?

You can import all the content at same time. There is an additional import view which will import the translation connections.

We haven't used collective.exportimport to import a multilingual site yet, but in the past we have imported a lot of sites using transmogrifier, and the pattern is always the same: first you should import all the content "unconnected", and as a last step connect the translations.

The point is that to connect the translations you need to have all the contents in the site.

Thank you so much for your answer @erral,

Your explanation was what I was looking for and it helped me a lot for understanding how I should proceed.
