I saw on a discussion tree that there was a plone.app.discussion add in, but I can not find it anywhere
any help would be great

@kdmiller45 plone.app.discussion is part of the core distribution of Plone. So it is always installed, you cannot find it in the add'ons control panel as a separate module.
What you should do is go to the 'Discussion' control panel: There you first have to enable discussions globally. After that you can configure more 'general' options in the control panel .
After this you can enable discussions more fine grained per contenttype in the "Content Settings" control panel. (Not the dexterity content types CP, that one is specialised for fields/behaviors of every type).
